A Partnership of the Arts & History

To increase the interest of our community in the arts, to assist all who wish to make an artistic contribution, and to bring the artist and the community-at-large together in a mutually beneficial relationship. To develop, promote, and coordinate the arts at the community level as an expression of Harrington Park’s talents, needs, resources, and aspirations under the auspices of the Harrington Park Historical Society.

The Arts Council and the Harrington Park Historical Society enrich the quality of life for people in Harrington Park and neighboring communities by raising funds for the arts, advocating for the arts, sponsoring events in conjunction with other arts organizations, providing educational opportunities, and strengthening cultural resources.

Why a Partnership of the Arts & History…

Partnerships enable organizations to share resources, both people and monetary, develop innovative programming and reach new audiences.

They facilitate the development of cross-disciplinary programs when working with visual and performing arts organizations and others.

ARTS CALENDAR
BERGEN COUNTY AND BEYOND

March 30, 2017 - 7:00 P.M.

A concert hosted by the Arts Council of Harrington Park  and the New Jersey Guitar & Music Society will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2017, 7:00 P.M. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 31 Lynn Street, Harrington Park, New Jersey. The concert is free and open to the public. Immediately following the concert there will be a light reception, including a mix and mingle with the artists.

The evening will begin with a brief talk on “The Guitar in Painting, from Vermeer to Picasso” by author Jim Tosone.

“Guitars of the Americas” features artists Tomas Rodriguez with Enrique Lopez (guitar, tres) and guest artist Manuel Alejandro Carro (percussion).

Mining the depths of Venezuelan and Cuban folkloric music and infusing it with shimmering language of bossa nova and the gritty force of flamenco, Rodriguez and Lopez have created a compelling and haunting mix of original compositions and arrangements that is unlike other guitar duos. Using the unusual combination of flamenco and classical guitar as well as guitar and the Cuban tres (three string Cuban guitar) coupled with Latin percussion, they create rhythmic and harmonic textures both innovative and accessible. The duo’s repertoire includes original music composed by Lopez and Rodriguez as well as their re-workings of classic Cuban boleros from the 40’s and 50’s and other lesser-known Latin gems.
